Our Background
Dr. Ken Larson, a Duluth dentist, founded the Northern Lights Foundation. Through his involvement with a similar national organization, he was inspired to create a local version, which would assist area families in financial need and grant wishes to children affected by life-threatening conditions. The foundation will partner with the local medical community to serve families who seek support from the Northern Lights Foundation.
Incorporated in 2006, Northern Lights Foundation is a 501©3 nonprofit organization with a volunteer board of directors who share Dr. Larson’s vision. There is no paid staff, all work is done by volunteers. Applicants are referred by their physician and the board reviews each application for assistance and makes a decision based on the amount of resources available. It is the goal of the Northern Lights Foundation to raise and distribute a minimum of $25,000 annually to children and their families served by the Duluth medical community. In addition, it is the desire of the Northern Lights Board of Directors to be able to respond to wishes of children with life threatening illness in a way that will meet or exceed their expectations.
